In this episode, we uncover the forgotten digital infrastructure of the Zone — old websites, local networks, dedicated modem lines, and the people who built and maintained them. Using surviving pages from the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, rare historical photographs, original network diagrams, and first-hand accounts, we explore the JANIS network in Pripyat, the servers of the RADEK laboratory, and the Chernobyl InfoCenter — the information hub that connected organizations across the Exclusion Zone. We also examine some of the earliest Chernobyl websites: radiation-monitoring pages, scientific publications, personal pages of employees, the first website of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and even a forgotten website created for the Shelter Object over Reactor Unit 4.
